    Wi‑Fi 6 at home: what it improves and what it does not

    Practical guide

    Wi‑Fi 6 is the version of WiFi designed for homes with many devices online at once. It shares the connection between them better, but it does not pass through walls by magic. This is what changes and what does not.

    What it improves

    • Many devices at once: phones, TVs, computers and speakers share the connection better, with fewer drops when everyone is online.
    • More speed on compatible devices close to the router.
    • Less battery use on compatible phones and devices.

    What does not change

    • Thick walls, ceilings and distance still reduce the signal.
    • Older devices connect, but without the Wi‑Fi 6 improvements: to benefit, the device must be Wi‑Fi 6 too.
    • If the signal does not reach a room, switching to Wi‑Fi 6 is not enough: you need another WiFi point closer to it.

    Tips that work

    • Place the router high up, central and in the open, away from metal cabinets and the microwave.
    • Use the 5 GHz band near the router (faster) and 2.4 GHz to reach further.
    • Connect by cable what does not move: the TV or the desktop computer.
    • In large or multi-storey homes, MegaWiFi (a Wi‑Fi 6 AX1500 device) takes the signal to the rooms it does not reach.

    Frequently asked questions

    Does Wi‑Fi 6 give me more speed?

    It does not increase your line speed. It shares it better between devices and makes more of it on compatible devices close to the router.

    Will Wi‑Fi 6 cover my whole home?

    Not necessarily. In a large home or one with thick walls you need a second WiFi point, such as MegaWiFi, to reach every room.
